The victim’s name was Gabriele Gallani, he was originally from Provazzano, a hamlet of Neviano, in the province of Parma. According to the Dutch site NL Times, the emergency services received the call shortly after 00:30, and managed to fish out the young man thanks to the intervention of divers. The 24-year-old was airlifted to hospital but died hours later. The circumstances that led to the tragedy are not yet known, and the police have opened an investigation and are looking for witnesses. None of his friends noticed his fall into the water because Gabriele was left behind, and not finding him they raised the alarm. Gallani was well known in Neviano, he was captain of a location football team that plays in Promotion, the Traversetolo Team. The young man was on vacation with a group of friends. He fell into the canal near Dam square on Friday evening. The young man, who was studying engineering, was due to return to Italy today to play a league match. In a post on Facebook, the Traversetolo company wrote: “It is difficult to find the words for what happened, perhaps the right ones are HELLO and THANK YOU, but we don’t know. You arrived when you were a kid and you have become our pillar, the only thing we can to do right now is to keep your memory alive within us. Needless to say anything else at the moment. Bye Gallo”. Even the club where Gabriele took his first steps on a football field, Tricolore Reggiana, dedicated a touching post to him: “Incredible! We still find it hard to believe it! Gabriele Gallani. Twenty-four year old player of the Traversetolo group and former captain of Piccardo juniores. Grew up in the Tricolore Reggiana football school. He died suddenly yesterday. “A splendid boy, I’m shocked!” says his former coach Mario Tavaglione, “loved by all. I’m close to mom, dad and brother Fabio.
