Asylum and migration: supporters and opponents take action at the hotel in Ruisbroek

A delegation of the far-right party Vlaams Belang took action on Saturday at the IBIS hotel in Ruisbroek, a sub-municipality of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, against the choice to accommodate former residents of the squat in Schaarbeek. At the same minute a small counter-demonstration took place.

The Zennevallei police zone reports that some 150 supporters of Vlaams Belang were present. They had set up a small podium on a nearby square and held speeches against the policy choices and asylum policy in our country. They had a banner at satisfied “Stop hotel Belgica”. They think it is not possible for asylum seekers to be transferred from Brussels to a hotel in Flanders.

“Despite all the promises that males would not receive asylum seekers or illegal immigrants in hotels, that is what happens. De Moor has completely lost control of the situation,” says Vlaams Belang party chairman in the Chamber Barbara Pass.

At a given minute, two asylum seekers wanted to talk to the Vlaams Belangers, but they were immediately sent away.

A little further on a small counter-demonstration took place with about 15 sympathizers and local residents. They brought along two banners with “Refugees Welcome” and “No people on the street”.

The police say that both actions went without any significant incidents.
