British series “Fawlty Towers” gets a sequel: John Cleese himself again takes on the role of hotel boss and his daughter also gets a role this time

The popular British TV series “Fawlty Towers” continues after more than 40 years. This is reported by the trade journal Indiewire. British actor John Cleese, also known from “Monty Python”, will again play the hotel boss himself and his daughter will also have a role in the new series. Where and when the series will be shown is not yet known.

The British actor John Cleese is now 83, but is clearly not thinking about stopping. More than forty years after “Fawlty Towers” first aired, Cleese will once again take on the role of bumbling hotel boss Basil Fawlty. Trade magazine Indiewire reports that there will be a sequel to the original series from the 1970s.

In the sequel – which Cleese himself wrote – the “Monty Python” star will again run a hotel. “Not with his wife this time, but with his daughter, whose origin he has just discovered,” said production company Castle Rock Entertainment. The role of the daughter in the series is played by the real daughter of John Cleese.

Cleese had huge praise for manufacturer Matthew George when announcing the job. “When we first met he came up with a great idea and then Matt, my daughter Camilla and I had one of the best creative sessions I can remember,” said the British actor.

WATCH – It is not yet known where and when the new series will be shown:

Cult

“Fawlty Towers” had only twelve episodes and only two seasons: the first season was released in 1975, the second in 1979. It grew from toddler to a real cult series and several scenes are world famous.

The phrase “Don’t point out the war”, from a famous episode of the British comic series, even got a place in our Van Dale dictionary last year.

In 2020, that episode was still under fire because of racist statements by one of the characters. The episode was removed from the BBC’s streaming platform, but eventually returned with a viewer warning.

In 2019, “Fawlty Towers” was named toddler best TV series ever by Radio Times Magazine. The original series was shown on BBC, but it is not yet known when and where the sequel will appear.
