Burns, blows of spatulas on the buttocks, caresses: the Vatel school in turmoil after overwhelming testimonies

For three weeks already, an entire class of the prestigious Vatel hotel school has been on strike. Overall, around sixty students in hotel management denounce “the inaction of the instructions” while testimonies accumulate against several teachers, indicates AFP quoted by the Point.

Since March 27, they have therefore refused to go to class. Four teachers are particularly targeted in this case, reports France Info: the pastry chef, the head of the room and two chefs. And the testimonials that continue to accumulate, could “break the omerta” as indicated by these future professionals in the hotel and restaurant industry, and this, despite the fear of reprisals as the exams are fast approaching. Obscene remarks and hot saucepan on the hand

“I was called ‘PD’ on several occasions”, denounces a student. Others recount having “recovered crying freshman girls after lewd words whispered in their ears or after blows of spatulas on the buttocks“. Another recounts her first year: “We were shouted at every day, they told me ‘You’re just shit’. In the morning I cried, I vomited in the evening I was so anxious”. A student says that one day, a chef “ holds his hot pan on my hand I look at him and I say to him ‘you literally burned me’ . He makes me ‘yes'”. If she explains that he ended up apologizing, she adds that she is “far from being the only one to have been so burned”. On the kid side, the school’s instructions did not wish to react but told AFP that the teachers concerned were “subject to disciplinary sanctions recorded in their file” and added that “a “device of “alert and management of possible psychosocial risks” would be rented from September 2023.
