The tourism authorities in Cuba plan to turn Cayo Largo into their smart destination guide. The project will be freighted by the island’s hotel chain, Gran Caribe, and the Spanish company SEGITTUR. In fact, both parties have already signed the agreement that will mark a milestone in the region. This will be the guide place with these characteristics not only in Cuba, but also in the Caribbean. The contract was finalized as part of the Fitur 2023 International Tourism Fair that ended this Sunday, January 22.
The good news was announced by the Minister of Tourism of Cuba, Juan Carlos García Granda, through his Twitter account. It was also known that the State Mercantile Society for the Management of Tourism Innovation and Technologies (SEGITTUR) is an experienced Spanish company.
It is dedicated to managing innovation and technologies in tourism. In this way, the Spanish government develops the Smart Tourist Destinations project. The primary objective is to implement a new model to improve competitiveness and tourism development.
Optimistic forecast by 2023
With this new contract, Cuba seeks to strengthen fool Spain ties in the matter tour. Likewise, it launches its new goal for this year, it is estimated that more than 3 million visitors will arrive on the Island.
It is, without a doubt, a difficult forecast to meet, although not impossible. We must remember that during 2022 Cuba received just over 1.6 million visitors. The initially forecast figure for last year was 2.5 million, then the estimate was lowered to 1.7 million. In short, neither of the two forecasts came true.
Cayo Largo del Sur is located in a strategic position for the exploitation of tourism. It is located 135 kilometers from Nueva Gerona, Isla de la Juventud. Its surface is 37.5 km and the length of 25 km, almost entirely is beach area.
