The official Cuban provincial press questions how it is possible for socialist state companies to apply price increases, when the government itself “leads a true crusade against inflation.”
An article of

Escambray

addresses the recent rise in prices of the Palmares Non-hotel Company, in many cases up to three times its value. The pizza went from 220 pesos to 470, the fajita from 200 to 700, the portion of fried chickpeas, from 65 to 350, the beef steak, from 110 to 825, and the veal dish from the rental property increased from 150 to 1,200 CUP.
The result it could not be other than almost empty establishments. This is how the provincial newspaper explains it: “workers with their arms crossed or, in some cases, submerged in the screens of their cell phones in the face of so much idleness.”

The dependent of some locations confessed to the aforementioned newspaper: “since the new prices began, on January 1st, sales here have plummeted and customers are rightly complaining.”

To exemplify it , provides the frightening figures: in his establishment they sold “on average between 35,000 and 45,000 pesos a day” and now they have had “days of only 5,836 pesos”.

PRICES IN CUBA: “NOBODY’S FAULT”
The administrator of “El Jigüe”, in the tourist Trinidad, assures that “what makes the offers more expensive are the prices established by the suppliers, mostly state companies”.

In this sense, the director of the branch in Sancti Spíritus specified that “the new financing scheme was approved by the management of the Grupo Nacional de Palmares.”
Before, explains, the value of the liquidity capacity (CL) of each product was assumed. This “protected sales prices, but deteriorated efficiency indicators and even triggered debts for foreign currency purchases”.

What happens now is that “the final price is formed taking into account the CL component of the inputs , the real exchange rate of 1 per 120 and the added value in national currency”.
” All meat is purchased through state-owned companies in the province, as is dairy, such as yogurt, cream cheese, processed cheese. Hopefully the possibility of acquiring products and supplies in national currency existed in the territory,” said the manager.
