At Accor, the hotel group above Ibis Budget, they are not satisfied with the way in which 180 asylum seekers ended up in the Ibis hotel in Saint Peters Lion. “The reservation was not made in a transparent way,” says Yves Fonck, director of Accor Belgium.

” We have been misled,” he said. “Consciously or unconsciously, I don’t know. We had made an agreement with the Brussels government to put a number of asylum seekers to sleep at peak times, spread over several of our hotels in Brussels. If 20 people come, in addition to 120 other guests, then there is no problem. But 180 people, in a hotel with 120 rooms, that is just too much. At peak times we have about 150 guests in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw. We do not have the people for this influx. And moreover, we suffer image damage due to this situation. We do not want to be the asylum seekers’ hotel. Humanity: yes. But we want a suitable shelter for these people to be found as soon as possible.”
