Drought in the Gard: campsites anticipate water savings

The Gard department will not be spared this summer by the drought, the latest measures to restrict the use of water taken by the prefecture on Monday April 24, in particular in the areas of the Cèze, prove it. Indeed, a Gardoise representative of the National Federation of Outdoor Hotels attends these meetings which lead to strengths measurements.At Domaine de Massereau, a five-star outdoor campsite in Sommières, in an area that has suffered from drought in previous summers, manager Gilles Rigole has anticipated any difficult hydrological scenario.

Swimming shorts not recommended

He says he is more “serene” than his colleagues from the Pyrénées-Orientales who are faced with the constraints of using water more strongly and earlier in the year: ” And repetition, in this department, the authorities have not prohibited the use of swimming pools in campsites. We cannot deprive our customers of aquatic activities because they come in large part with us could do that”, indicates Gilles Rigole. The latter, who invested in a spa area three years ago, recalls that his team can rely on digital tools to better save water, such as this system which stops watering when it rains. “We also ask customers not to use the swimming pool with a bathing brief to avoid water loss when leaving the pool” , indicates -on to the Domaine de Massereau. The watering of the lawn is stopped in the event of a drought alert, water savers rented at the level of the showers which stop after three minutes if the button is not activated. “Tourism stakeholders are necessarily involved in saving water and the federation of professionals in the outdoor hotel industry consulted in the event of drought” , confides Gilles Rigole vigilant.
