In Berlin, explosion of the largest cylindrical aquarium in the world

25 meters high, the AquaDom, the largest cylindrical fish tank in the world, exploded inside a Radisson hotel in Berlin.

INTERNATIONAL – 5:50 a.m. A detonation suddenly wakes up the 300 guests of the Radisson Collection hotel in Berlin, this Friday, December 16. The glass walls of the Aquadom, the aquarium located within the hotel, have just given way. 1 million liters of water flow into the establishment’s shopping mall, as well as into the streets.

With a height of 25 meters, the basin of the Hôtel de la Capitale German was the largest cylindrical fish tank in the world. It housed 1,500 tropical fish as well as a clear-walled elevator for visitors. The broken glass killed the fish and injured two people.

According to the German daily Bild, the explosion would have been caused by the wear of the material. The AquaDom had however been reopened in 2020 after a long and costly renovation of 2.5 million euros.
