“Krone” in the quarter – only eight showers and toilets for 300 asylum seekers | krone.at

Sheets and plastic wrap hang around the beds as a privacy screen, standing close together. There are only eight showers and eight toilets for around 300 “residents” of the asylum center in Frankenburg am Hausruck – there are canisters with water at the toilet. Laundry lies and hangs around everywhere. Men of different nationalities form small groups, there are no opportunities to retreat.

Also from the outside Everyone can see the old factory building, in which migrants should stay two weeks according to the specifications – some have been there for months, according to their own statements. The “Krone” got exclusive insights into the federal quarter, against whose size the place is now standing up.

Number of receipts should be reduced
“We planned a protest march two weeks ago, but postponed it because the mayor has now become active,” says initiator Martin Kaser (39), who reached with his comrades-in-arms wants that in Belegza hl in the old factory building to an optimum of 100 – as promised by the federal government in 2015. Up to 300 or even more asylum seekers are currently crammed here.

“This has become unbearable for the people of Frankenburg and also for the people in the hall,” says Kaser, who is now wants to have a legal check as to whether the accommodation in the company building area is covered at all. After the end of the current petition for a reduction in the number of receipts, a rally will be held with the representatives of the community.

“Size is unreasonable”

“We want to help the refugees, but the size of the quarter is unreasonable. Both for the people inside as well as for the Frankenburg population,” says Ortwin Maritsch from Frankenburg, who is clearly in favor of reducing the number of occupants – also to enable the asylum seekers to lead a decent life. And one hopes that fewer young men will “hang around” in the village – although there have not yet been any serious incidents, “whoever has to go through 20 men simply has a queasy feeling”.

In the coming days two additional shower containers arrive in Frankenburg, and a new kitchen for the asylum seekers is also planned.
