A pastor and three other Christians were shot dead by Islamic extremists last month in ) Sudan
According to Morning Star News, the four men were on their way to their hometown Um Durein and were sleeping in a hotel in Kadugli, in the state of South Kordofan, on January 23.
During the early morning, armed men went to the regional office and shot Sudanese-American pastor Ibrahim Kandr, Ismail Osman, Bashir Almaak and Ayoub Ibrahim.
According to a regional leader , who was not identified for security reasons, it is likely that radical Islamists, who monitor movements in and out of the city, saw the ministry team arrive at night.
Four other people, who were accompanying the Christians on the trip, were injured during the attack
The Christian community in Sudan mourns the tragic death of the four men on social networks.
“My condolences to the family of the servant of God Ibrahim and the other victims”, wrote a Christian named Komi.
Persecution in Sudan
After two years of advances in religious freedom in Sudan with the end of the Islamic dictatorship in 2019, authorities have returned to persecute Christians since the 2021 military coup
According to Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), authorities threatened church leaders living in IDP camps, stating that they would be accused of apostasy if they continued to gather together to pray.
” When leaders protested, citing the legal changes made in the transitional government, they were informed that the coup had changed the legal situation,” he told CSW.
Before and after last year’s military coup, supporters of Jesus continued to be persecuted. Sudan remained #10 on Open Doors Mission’s 2023 Persecution List of the hardest countries to be a Christian in.
