Sectur: hotel occupancy registered 56.7% in 70 tourist destinations in Mexico in 2022

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that in 2022, hotel occupancy was 567%, in the 70 centers monitored by DataTur , that is 155 percentage points more than in 2021 and only 3.5 percentage points to reach what was registered in 2019.

The head of the Secretary of Tourism( Sectur) reported that the arrival of tourists to hotel rooms, from January to December 2022, was 80.6 million tourists; of which 59 million 228 thousand were national tourists, this is 73.5% of the overall; while 21 million 322 thousand tourists were foreigners, which represents 26.5%.

He specified that the cities registered 43.8 million tourists to hotel rooms while the beach centers received 36.8 million tourists to hotel rooms, during January-December 2022 Torruco Marqués indicated that in beach resorts, the occupancy level in 2022 was 65.7%, which means an increase of 17.2 percentage points , compared to 2021, when 48.5% occupancy was registered.

He pointed out that in city destinations, the occupancy percentage registered 48.7%, which in relation to the 34.7% registered in 2021, it means an increase of 14 percentage points.

He highlighted that the extremes with the highest occupancy are Integrally Planned Centers(CIP) with 719%, and with the lowest occupancy in inland cities with 43.1%.

He pointed out that From January to December 2022, in hotel occupancy by tourist centers, the following stand out with the highest occupancy levels: Playacar, with 79.7%; Akumal with 78.8%; Cabo San Lucas, with 77.2%; Cancun, with 75.9% and Puerto Vallarta, 72.4%. In city destinations, the number of rooms occupied in 2022 was 109,910, which represents an increase of 41.4% compared to the previous year.

The head of Sectur affirmed that, in the accumulated January-December 2022, the average number of available rooms reached a level of 423 thousand 893 units, this is 0.6% more than the same period of the previous year.

For beach centers, an average of 198,424 available rooms were registered, while in 2021 there were 197,802, which means 0.3% more.

In city destinations, the average number of rooms available in 2022 was 225,469, which represents an increase of 0.8% compared to 2021
