Sommerro: If you are in Oslo, you must check out this hotel

Petter Stordalen’s new Oslo hotel – the huge investment Sommerro – has both gorgeous art deco details and an incredibly good atmosphere in the house. Food and cultural experiences are also lined up.

Oslo’s new great hall )

Shop expectations have been attached to Sommerro, which is located at Solli Plass, not far from the Castle in Oslo. Over the past five years, Stordalen and his company Nordic Choice, in close collaboration with the Byantikvaren in Oslo, have transformed the iconic Oslo Lightworks building into a luxury hotel. The owners have spared nothing and the price tag for the new hotel is no less than NOK 2.5 billion. The result is an exceptionally stylish and completed building that is among the most interesting hotel openings this year.

Certain hotels in the luxury segment can be a bit formal, but that is not the case with Sommero, which offers a relaxed and cozy feeling throughout your stay. The hotel is stylishly designed by the renowned architect duo GrecoDeco, who have worked with hotels worldwide. They are known, among other things, for their work with the London hotel The Ned which Sommerro is clearly inspired by– at the same time as Summer tranquility is something completely unto itself. Here, all details, shop as small, are well thought out.

Seven restaurants, cinema hall and gym

The expedition hall– wonderfully decorated in its time by Per Krohg– serves as the hotel’s main artery with bustling life from morning to night . Here you will be served all 24-hour meals, as well as an exciting mixed drink and wine list. All this and more to the sound of Sommerro’s own jazz band, which creates that little something extra and a continental atmosphere. Yes, it’s

almost we saw forget that we are in Oslo when we caretaker in the beautiful brasserie!

There is no shortage of offers at Sommerro. Medication’s own cinema that shows the great film classics and a total of seven restaurants, you can pick and choose between everything from street food from Thailand to Spanish tapas dishes, cheap as well as expensive. One of their many exciting concepts is “brunch and film classics” which consists of a 2-course brunch in the Expedition Hall, mineral water, popcorn and of course the screening itself. In the future, you can choose between films such as The Shop Around the Corner

or Carol, otherwise carefully selected titles that suit the profile of the hotel well. In addition, Sommerro has the venerable Vestkantbadet, now in a new look. Here you can also treat yourself to a particularly pleasant treatment if you wish.

As we are both grateful to exercise when we visit hotels, we have to single out the 400 square meter training room as one of the best things we have experienced on our many hotel visits. It is not often that you are served coffee and sparkling water at the gym. Thumbs up for it!

Long-awaited Oslo hotel

Very few hotels are spotless. This also applies to Sommero, who has certain “childhood diseases”. Everything from faulty telephones in the rooms to occasional poor communication between the employees and the departments. The check-out process can also be experienced as a bit chaotic. When there are many guests who want to check out at the same time at 12.00 in a small reception, you can imagine what it looks like. It should be added that the employees are, after all, quick on the spot when problems first arise, and they solve it all with a smile. With some internal adjustments, we are absolutely sure that Sommerro will assert itself further on the international hotel scene.

A new Oslo hotel has long been sorely needed. That’s why we take off our hats and send a big congratulations to the Sommerro family on the opening of Oslo’s new large living room. We look forward to the continuation and look forward to enjoying a mixed drink or two on the roof terrace when the weather gets warmer.

Facts about Sommerro:

Price: There are many different room types and package offers at Sommerro. The cheapest rooms (Loft Room) start at NOK. NOK 1,990 for the room only. If you want other experiences such as access to Vestkantbadet and the fantastic dice room, there will be a small surcharge in the price. If you compare Sommerro with other Oslo hotels in the same league, the price per space is quite affordable.

Standard: The hotel has consistently high requirements, clean and friendly service. There is also no shortage of food and drink on offer, nor other experiences such as a medical spa and an exciting cultural programme. Lots of great architecture and deep history leave their mark on the hotel.

Breakfast: The hotel breakfast is served in the Expedition Hall. Here you can choose between the chef’s own specialties or help yourself to a wonderful breakfast buffet that offers fresh baked goods and delicious cold cuts.

Suitable for: Sommerro is the hotel for those who want to feel that little something extra during a good hotel visit. The hotel is well suited for out-of-towners to Oslo citizens who want a little mini-holiday in their own city. If you only want a beverage in the bar at Izakaya (the hotel’s street food and cocktail bar on the 7th floor) or an “afternoon tea” with good friends in the restaurant, To Søstre, the hotel makes good arrangements for that. In other words, Sommerro is a meeting point for all people.

Location: The hotel is located at Solli Plass, the very heart of the Frogner district in Oslo and the hub for a lot of public transport. A short walk and you find yourself outside the Royal Palace or studying pictures by Edward Munch at the new National Museum. Oslo’s shopping street, Bogstadveien or Frognerparken are also not far from the hotel.

Improvement potential: Slightly better internal communication among the employees, a better solution to the check-out process and a little more hot dishes in the breakfast buffet, and Sommerro will be well on its way to becoming one of Oslo’s best hotels.
