State Secretary Van der Burg (Justice) will go to Tubbergen on Tuesday, the municipality where an asylum seekers center will be located in a former hotel. The municipality announced this tonight.
Van der Burg will be present during a public give an explanation to the council meeting on the decision of the cabinet to grant a permit for an asylum seekers center in Albergen, which is part of Tubbergen.
Residents can also participate in the meeting if they register in advance with the municipality. Unrest has arisen in Tubbergen after it was announced on Tuesday that the cabinet is granting a permit for the reception of 150 kid-300 asylum seekers in the former hotel. It is the first time that the government has taken a decision to issue a permit for an asylum seekers center without the approval of the local government.
Conversation with the municipality previously yielded nothing
Because the problems in reception are acute and lengthy consultations with the municipality yielded nothing, the cabinet decided to accommodate asylum seekers in the municipality without Tubbergen’s consent. According to the Secretary of State, it was “choosing between a headache and a stomachache”.
residents wanted to stop the arrival by buying the hotel, but it turned out that it had already been bought by the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers
The first people are expected to move into the building in mid-September.
