Survey: The catering industry is cautious about the Christmas business

BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – According to an industry survey, restaurateurs in Germany are currently still cautious about the upcoming Christmas business. More than 45 percent of the companies surveyed described the booking and reservation situation for the months of November and December as bad, as the hotel and restaurant association Dehoga announced on Monday. However, more than half found the situation to be good or satisfactory.

Dehoga President Guido Zöllick spread confidence: “We know that guests today book at much shorter notice,” he said. “That gives hope for the Christmas business.”

Like other sectors, restaurateurs are also struggling with rising costs for energy and staff. Every fifth company surveyed stated that they would not have to close the federal government’s relief package. “The relief effect of the energy and electricity price brake must now quickly reach consumers and companies,” Zöllick demanded. “Now it is important that the open questions of a developmental nature and state aid law are quickly clarified.”/ maa/DP/mis
