Technology strengthens the Horeca sector

The Horeca sector (hotels, restaurants and cafeterias) has been pushed in the last two years to reinvent itself and make innovative changes that allow it to reach to consumers in new ways. One of the most progressive initiatives is the adoption of technology in areas where it had not been considered or even rejected.

In this sense, Heisson Nessi, basic manager of Epson Colombia, shares some technological trends in mobile printing and intelligent designed to optimize the processes required by the gastronomic and hotel sectors.

” There is no doubt that the economic situation has forced many industries to go digital and the restaurant industry is no exception as it has leaned towards the use of technology by introducing digital menus and options of online orders to keep their business alive,” says Nessi.

Technology and innovation have helped, and in some cases saved, restaurants as they changed the way they think about the basic consumer experience. Many have prospered by staying connected and engaged with their customers with this new operating model and global mindset. Everything from online ordering to self-checkout, contactless payment methods and home delivery, the restaurant industry could not afford to ignore the latest trends set in the food industry if they wanted to remain relevant and competitive.

One of the trends that is here to stay is online ordering . Before the pandemic hit the world, many restaurants were waiting for the right time to introduce online ordering options for their customers. However, the strict lockdown forced the restaurant industry worldwide to close its cafeterias, QSRs and food services and switch to the digital means of ordering, payment and collection. In Colombia, for example, only in 2020 the food delivery service increased by 45%, according to figures from Euromonitor International.
