The Djokovics build, the people of Belgrade complain

The construction of a sports complex of 30,000 square meters with a tennis stadium, hotels and high-rise buildings right next to Kalemegdan, initiated by the Novak Tennis Center, is the latest in a series of concessions by the current city government towards the family Đoković, writes research network BIRN. That’s why writer and NiN award winner Dejan Atanacković sent an open letter to the best tennis player in the world, Novak Djokovic.

Tennis courts, Novak Center, Serbia Open, all of this is located on Dorćol, next to the Danube, not far from Kalemegdan. However, as BIRN writes, a new complex of 30,000 square meters could soon be built there. That information caused violent reactions in the public, and the winner of NIN’s award, Dejan Atanacković, wrote an open letter to Novak for a clear reason.

“That business project threatens the most important cultural heritage of Belgrade, and it is the Belgrade fortress. The Republic Institute for the Protection of Monuments expressed its opinion on this and issued a decision opposing the construction at the foot of the fortress, which threatens the integrity of the fortress and creates another obstruction of the view. The biggest issue is that the treatment and opinion of a relevant institution are bypassed,” says Dejan Atanacković, writer and winner of the NIN award. personalities like Novak Djokovic, who, among other things, promotes a healthy lifestyle.
