Amsterdam wants to publicly pay tribute to the women’s team – which became champion last Sunday. Het Parool reports this on Wednesday afternoon. Mayor Femke Halsema has now contacted Ajax director Edwin van der Sar about this. ‘It is great what our Ajax Women have achieved and that deserves a celebration,’ says Mayor Halsema. The Ajax Women celebrated the national title on Sunday after winning 1-6 at PEC Zwolle. “I immediately conveyed congratulations.” A modest ceremony will take place this coming Sunday in the canteen at Sportpark de Toekomst. This ceremony is organized by Ajax itself. Halsema – with alderman for sports Sofyan Mbarki – invited the women to the official residence on Wednesday. Contact with Edwin van der Sar D66 party leader Ilana Rooderkerk thinks that is not enough and indicated that ‘this wonderful achievement’ should be celebrated more widely. During the city council on Wednesday, she asked questions to the mayor. “Can there be a public tribute?” Mayor Halsema responded enthusiastically to a pass away question and she also indicated that she had already contacted Van der Sar. It is not yet known whether it is a canal cruise or a ceremony on, for example, the Museumplein. In the coming period, there will be mutual discussions about the form of a ceremony. It is clear that the ceremony must take place after the end of the current season. source
