The National Association of Restaurateurs became an associate member of HUP

Although the Croatian employers’ association formally has a hospitality and tourism branch association, according to the list of members of the Executive Board, it is evident that it is only about large hotel houses. Therefore, the cooperation agreement, which was signed on Friday by the Croatian Association of Employers (HUP) and the National Association of Restaurateurs, could be of benefit to restaurateurs which until now have not had this kind of support through hoteliers.

The agreement was signed by the vice-president of the National Association of Hospitality Providers Zdravko Karna and the chief director of HUP Irena Weber

As it is written in the press release of HUP, the purpose of the agreement is to strengthen the role of caterers in the economic system, and the main goals of cooperation are, among others, initiation of legislative initiatives and participation in the work on the drafting of laws and by-laws, representation of common interests before public administration bodies, participation and monitoring of the adoption of regulations related to EU legislation and the initiation of projects of mutual interest.

The catering sector has been facing many challenges in its operations for a long time, such as numerous administrative procedures. , lack of manpower, excessive tax burden and others. By strengthening the voice of caterers, an important contribution is made to the dialogue between employers and the legislator and executive authorities.

The catering industry in Croatia directly employs more than 60 thousand workers, and each workplace in the hospitality industry additionally generates three workplaces in related activities, which leads to the number of 180 thousand workers, directly dependent on business conditions in the preparation and serving of food and beverages. The conditions that this branch of the economy is facing today almost exclusively depend on the functioning of local self-government units and the interest and desire of individual local self-government units for a constructive dialogue, it was pointed out at the signing of the Agreement by which the National Association of Hospitality Providers became an associate member of HUP

– The Croatian Association of Employers is aware of the importance of the hospitality industry in the economic system, and therefore wants to point out the problems they face through its activities and, through its regular activities, help solve them. . We are convinced that our cooperation will be a catalyst for many positive changes in areas of mutual interest, such as the tax burden on work, labor shortages, administrative and bureaucratic obstacles in business, but also some topics that are closely related to the hospitality industry, such as legal regulation tips, approval of permits for foreign workers and others , said Irena Weber. Karna added that the catering industry has borne the brunt of the crisis in the past few years and that caterers will now, in cooperation with HUP as a social partner, solve the challenges more successfully.

The beginnings of the National Association of Catering Associations date back to 2016, when independent catering associations were founded at the local level, which recognized the need to directly solve the difficulties they encounter in their business, and the first such issue was VAT, which in those years was raised to 25 percent Hospitality associations founded in this way soon began to coordinate their activities, and thus the umbrella National Association of Hospitality Providers was born which today gathers catering associations from Zagreb, Bjelovar – Bilogor County, Međimurje, Kvarner and Istria, Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik.
