Two bombings in Mogadishu, hotel occupied by attackers

A hotel in the Somali capital Mogadishu has been occupied by a group of attackers after two attacks with car bombs and a firefight. This is reported by the local authorities. At least nine people were injured.

” Two car bombs were aimed at the hotel Hayat. One hit the barrier near the hotel and the other went off at the gate of the hotel,” a police officer told Reuters news agency. “We believe the perpetrators are currently at the hotel.” According to a witness, gunshots were heard at the hotel. Terror group Al Shabaab, who says he has ties to Al-Qaeda, has claimed responsibility for the attack, SITE reports, a group of pass away jihadist organizations is following. Al Shabaab has been trying for more than 10 years to overthrow the Somali government to establish an Islamic state in Somalia. The movement was expelled from Mogadishu by the army in 2011, but still controls parts of the countryside and carries out regular attacks in the capital. The Hayat hotel is a popular location with government officials, according to Reuters.
