The Marriott Copley Place, a luxury hotel in Boston (USA), was the stage for the start of SatanCon 2023, a satanic event that, according to the organizers, is the ” greatest in history”.
The event was organized by The Satanic Temple and has sold out tickets for three days of programming. The initiative started with a female leader of the group tearing up a Holy Bible in front of the audience and then a flag representing the regional police was destroyed.
According to The Satanic Temple’s official website, the event features lectures, panels presented by staff and congregations, nightly entertainment and a satanic market. This year’s edition, which began last Friday (4/28), marks the Temple’s 10th anniversary.
Although the organization states that the event’s mission is to “encourage benevolence and empathy among all people, reject tyrannical authority, uphold practical common sense and justice, and be directed by human conscience to undertake noble pursuits”, the initiative was dedicated to Boston’s Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu after the group was not allowed to make a satanic invocation at a City Council meeting in 2021.
During the event, a female leader of the group tore up pages from the Holy Bible claiming to be “destroying symbols of oppression”.
At another time, a male leader joined her in tearing up a flag known as the “Thin Blue Line”, which represents US security forces. )
